Welcome to the Florida obituaries page, where you will find links, databases, and resources that will help you find obituaries and vital records related information. If you are looking to find a copy of a specific obituary, biographic/public records data, or a copy of the official death certificate from person who died in Florida, then please follow the following steps:

1 Search the Social Security Death Index
If you do not know the full name, date, and place of death then you can use the US Government Social Security Death Index to help get this information. Click here to access the SSDI for free.
2 Search the Local Newspapers Archives
Once you have the name, place, and date of death then you can search the local newspapers archives for a copy of the obituary posting. You can access our free list of all the newspapers and their obituary sections for the state of Florida.
3 Search other Free and Paid Resources

Instruction for obtaining a copy of a Florida Death Certificate

Remarks: State office has some death records dating back to 1877. The majority of records date from January 1917. (If the exact date is unknown, the fee is $5.00 for the first year searched and $2.00 for each additional year up to a maximum of $50.00. Fee includes one certification of record if found or certified statement stating record not on file.) Additional copies are $4.00 each when requested at the same time.
