MARY I. BARRETT HURLBUT
91, formerly of Walnut Street, Winsted, died Monday, September 1, 1997 at Valerie Manor Health Care Center in Torrington.
She was the wife for 67 years of Lewis J. HURLBUT who died in 1994. Born December 28, 1905 in Winsted, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary GLOSTER BARRETT and had lived here all of her life. She was a graduate of St. Anthony's School and The Gilbert School Class of 1924. She had worked for several years as a teller at the former Hurlbut National Bank and served for many years as a volunteer for the Women's Auxiliary of the Winsted Memorial Hospital. Upon retirement, she was honored for havng given more than 20,000 hours to benefit the hospital. She was also a communicant and lifelong friend of St. Joseph Church.
Mrs. HURLBUT was predeceased by her only son, William B. HURLBUT, Sr. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Evelyn W. HURLBUT of South Glastonbury; five grandchildren: William B. HURLBUT, Jr of Rockville, MD, Susan L. HURLBUT of Milwaukee, OR, Charles L. HURLBUT of Colorado Springs, CO, Patricia A. HANNINGTON of Madison, OH, and Laura L. HURLBUT of Northborough, MA; six great grandchildren; three brothers: John BARRETT of Winsted, Robert BARRETT of Norfolk and James C. BARRETT of New Hartford, and a sister, Roberta VACCARI of Winsted.

Mike BARRETT, instructor at Fremont High School in Oakland, died Tuesday at Anderson Flat Stanilaus National Forest. He was 50. The native of Oakland moved to Concord from Alameda. He was a licensed contractor and real estate broker. He enjoyed carpentry work. He was a counselor for Teen Al-Anon and a graduate of UC-Berkeley.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica BARRETT of Alameda; son, Joey BARRETT of San Francisco; brothers, Robert P. 93, of Elm Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. She was born in Winchester, Mass., on May 24, 1904, the daughter of Charles and Beulah Hildreth BARRETT. She was a graduate of Wellesley College and Simmons graduate school. In 1932, she married Charles Edwin BARNARD. They lived in Philadelphia, Pa., Bronxville, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio, before retiring to Camden. Mr. BARNARD died in 1984. Mrs. BARNARD was a communicant of St. Paul?s Episcopal Church in Brunswick. She is survived by a son, Barrett BARNARD of Barrington, R.I.
There will be no services. Interment will be in New Ipswich, N.H. Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick.

Age 79 years. Suddenly Saturday, November 29, 1997, at Silver Cross Hospital. Born in Joliet and a lifelong resident, he was a retired employee of U.S. Steel (Rod Mill, 31 years service). A WWII Army Air Force veteran, member of Joliet Elks Lodge #296, and longtime member and served on the board of the Wireco. Credit Union.
Survived by his wife, Bernadine (nee SMEGO) of Joliet; one daughter, Cheryl (Roy deceased) SHULENBERG of Wilmington, IL; and one son, Gary of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, Meghan (William) CARLSON of New Orleans and Brian SHULENBERG of Carbondale, IL; and numerous other relatives.

ROBERT G. "BIG BOB" BARRETT
surrounded by friends & family passed away Saturday the 26th of July 1997 at the age of 68. Bob was born on October 7th, 1928 the son of Allen & Mary (ENRIGHT) BARRETT. He attended school in East Grand Forks. He was a foremen for Potato Sales. Bob married Beverly Ann MOULDS on January 24, 1950. In 1954 they moved moved to Jerome, Idaho where he helped start a potato plant. In 1955 they returned and Bob was hired by Hoffert's as foreman and trouble shooter for Detroit Diesel. Bob and Bev lived in Fisher from 1962 to 1976 where he also served as constable and special deputy of Polk County. Bob farmed from 1973 to 1986 then started Big Bob's Farm Supply. He was on the board and past president of the Lions Club and Heritage Foundation, also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge 350 & Oslo Lions.
He had Bib Bobs Buffalo Burgers at Heritage Days and Oslo Bean Days, with proceeds going to charity.
Bob is survived by his wife Bev and his seven children; Kathy (Martin) MILLS of EGF, Robert (Lori) BARRETT of East Grand Forks , Kristy AAMOLD of Grand Forks, Karen BARRETT of Northwood, ND, Kari (Sean) METZGER of Fisher, MN, Michelle (Darrin) BERG of Fisher, MN, Kevin (Shelly) BARRETT of Encinitas, CA, 13 grandchildren, brother William BARRETT, sisters; Laura MOULDS and Dot BURCKHARD. ROGER G. BARRETT
47, died November 11 1997 at Holy Family Hospital after a battle with cancer.
Mr. BARRETT was born in New London and had formerly resided in Laconia prior to moving to Salem 20 years ago.
He was educated in Laconia schools and graduated from Laconia High School in 1968. He graduated from Plymouth State College with a bachelor of arts degree in history, and received his masters in education. Mr. BARRETT began his teaching career at Memorial Middle School in Laconia, where he taught for a year. He taught at the Berlin Middle School for three years before moving to Salem. He taught history in both the 7th and 8th grades for 13 years at Woodbury Junior High School in Salem.
Mr. BARRETT attended the New England Pentecostal Ministries of Pelham.
He was an avid chess and tennis player.
Family members include his wife, Ellen M (IANNAZZO) BARRETT; a daughter, Catherine E. BARRETT of Salem; his mother, Virginia BARRETT of Belmont; a sister, Gail BARRETT; three brothers, Stephen W. Mr. BARRETT was a teacher. He began his career at Memorial Middle School in Laconia, where he taught for a year. He taught at the Berlin Middle School for three years before moving to Salem. He was a history teacher at both the 7th and 8th grade levels at Woodbury Junior High School in Salem for 13 years.

96, a resident of Sedona for 20 years, died Oct. 18.
Mrs. BARRETT was born in Little Falls, Minn., the daughter of sharecroppers, and the oldest of eight children. She spent most of her early life in Brainerd, Minn., later moving to Michigan where she raised her family.
Mrs. BARRETT is survived by her daughters, Sylvia LEACOCK of Sedona and Gloria TROJCAK of San Angelo, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Mabel RYDEN of Grand Portage, Minn.
A Requieum Mass was celebrated at Sedona Funeral Home Oct. 22, followed by interment at Sedona Community Cemetery.
